Ultra runner Hylton Dunn won the overall line honours at the 2018 Giants Cup two-day trail run in the Southern Drakensberg, in the same convincing way that he beat his drug addiction to become the formidable athlete that he is today.

The 32km first stage of the Giant’s Cup trail run in the Southern Drakensberg was completely dominated by experienced trail runner Hylton Dunn who won the stage by just under 30 minutes while Sally Fenwick took the ladies honours on Friday.

The exclusive Giant’s Cup two-day trail run in the Southern Drakensberg gets underway on Friday with the select group of runners tackling the pristine trails of the Maloti Drakensberg National Heritage Site from 18 to 19 May.

2017 Giant’s Cup champion and Drakensberg local Thabo Madlala will be back for another shot at claiming the title he won a year ago while hoping to repeat 2017’s dream-come-true achievement on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 May.

The fourth edition of the Giant’s Cup will attract a number of the region’s top trail runners when they take on the two-day, 62km journey along the fabled Giant’s Cup hiking trail in the Southern Drakensberg on Friday 19 and Saturday 20 May.

Last year “The Professor” gave a master class to the trail running community at the Giant’s Cup trail run in the South Drakensberg, but this year Iain Don-Wauchope, nicknamed The Professor, is unable to take part due to illness, but he was on hand this week to give some sage advice to those taking part in the 2017 event on 19-20 May.
